Mohammad Rizwan Faces Betting Probe as Old Jersey-Tape Photo Sparks Controversy
Mohammad Rizwan faces an ongoing betting and gambling-related probe after his phone was taken for investigation. An old jersey-tape photo has now sparked fresh controversy among fans and critics.
The controversy has intensified after a photograph of Rizwan surfaced showing him playing with tape placed over part of his jersey. The photograph is from the period when Rizwan had refused to promote the betting app printed on the team jersey and covered it with tape before playing the match.
The emergence of the photograph has led to criticism of Rizwan over what some have described as contradictory conduct. At the same time, some fans remain unconvinced by the allegations and believe that a conspiracy is being carried out against him. They maintain that Rizwan could not be involved in betting-related activities. Several fans have also argued that Rizwan may have previously projected himself as being against betting apps, while the current investigation has brought a different picture to light.
The developments came during Pakistan's England tour, where the team was performing poorly. After Pakistan lost the first Test by an innings and then suffered defeat in the second match as well, there was turmoil within the Pakistan Cricket Board. Seven players and two coaches were sent back to Pakistan.
The phones of Mohammad Rizwan and Imam-ul-Haq were taken into custody by investigating officials, and the investigation has continued since then. Rizwan also approached the court against the action, but his request was rejected.
Rizwan has maintained that he is cooperating fully with the investigation. The probe against him remains ongoing, with the allegations and his response now at the centre of the continuing proceedings
